T + One Week

One week later, and I'm still alive. Not that I expected anything else to happen, really. I mean I don't make plans to stop existing on a daily basis. I can't tell if the joke I tried to tell succeeded or not.

First week of classes finished yesterday at about 12.15. I had been invited to a friend's bbq/hangout/superawesomeness (his words) and to play tennis with another friend but instead I went home - promptly misplaced my phone - and took care of errands and things I had forgotten about. I also finished watching the first two episodes of BBC's miniseries adaptation of John Le Carre's Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Bloody brilliant, as those English might say. After this, I fell asleep on my brother's floor while reading to him, Jack London's White Fang. Getting only 4-5 hours of sleep a night this entire week took more out of me than I had realized.

I finally retrieved my phone this morning, discovering two missed calls, both people offering to come pick me up and get me to the bbq party. I feel bad about having missed the calls and the party but I also think that staying in wasn't such a bad idea. More than anything I think, I needed the sleep.

My thoughts on the first week? Not as much work as I had expected - but definitely more fun than I had expected. For the most part my professors are awsome, engaging, extremely friendly, forgetful and just as prone to tangents as any other professors I've had. My section is a fun group of people, most of whom have very obvious quirks and preferences. I'm already known as the "girl who wears the shawl", since I bring my scarves to class. It gets really cold in some of those rooms, and I'm the only one who wears scarves in class. One of my friends looks exactly like Obama - imagining what nicknames came out of that is not too hard. Another one of the guys has the exact same mannerisms as a friend of mine from BU, so similar in fact, that I've almost called him by the wrong name multiple times.

As I mentioned, the workload is not too bad, but then again, it was only the first week of class.

We'll see how the rest of the weeks go.
